It’s very authentic but also very used to visitors so there is a good infrastructure, lovely hotels etc.. From Oaxaca you can fly to Puerto Escondido which is beautiful and the two combined would make for a great trip. You can also drive but it’s a rather long and windy road. The Yucatan is similarly a great option and you can combine culture with the beach. I hope this helps! Katja

Our children speak Spanish and we wanted them to experience the culture. Our 5 year old needs motivation to get out of her comfort zone. Do you feel like trekking to Oaxaco from California would be too much? Did you make it to the coast when you were here? We thought about the Yukatan as well for convenience and on the fence. We also thought Kauai would be simple. Any feedback would be great. One of my kids has severe nut and bee allergies and we need to take that into consideration everywhere we travel. Thanks!
